This year, Cinco de Mayo falls on a Saturday — which means plenty of over-the-top fiestas to choose from, and a little less guilt about having that extra margarita. Not sure where to celebrate OTP? Consider this hit list of Cinco de Mayo (and some Kentucky Derby combo) festivities to get you started.

  1. Tin Lizzy’s
All locations are offering weeklong drink specials (through May 6) as part of their Drinko de Mayo festivities, and live music and DJs on the big day. Specials include Corona Light and Modelo Especial on draft ($4.25 and $7), Grand Marnier floaters ($3), 1800 Silver Tequila, Jagermeister and Grand Marnier shots ($5), and 1800 Cinco-Rita ($8 small or $13 large). And, on the actual Cinco de Mayo, enjoy large outdoor celebrations at six select locations — two of which are located OTP (Perimeter and Mall of Georgia). Bonus: you can party for a good cause: A portion of the proceeds from each Cinco-Rita sold in the Atlanta area on May 5 will be donated to Bert’s Big Adventure, which provides chronically or terminally ill children and their families with five-day, all-expenses-paid adventures to Disney World.

  2. Cinco de Mayo street party at Ceviche Taqueria & Margarita Bar and Truck & Tap
In historic downtown Alpharetta, Mexican favorite Ceviche Taqueria & Margarita Bar is teaming up with its next-door neighbor, Truck & Tap, this year to throw a major block party for Cinco de Mayo. The festivities will take place 2-10 p.m. in the back alleyway, complete with music, tacos and margaritas. Food and drink specials also will be on offer. Check online for more details.
    42 Milton Ave., Alpharetta. 770-777-0230, cevichetaqueria.com.
  3. It’s a Derby de Mayo Party!
The Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo collide this Saturday, and you can celebrate both at the Savvy Cellars in Sandy Springs. Head to the Derby de Mayo Party 4:30-8 p.m. Saturday, for mint juleps, margaritas and light Derby and Mexican appetizers while you watch the race on the big TVs. There will be a prize for the best outfit, so be sure to don your most creative hat, and come dressed in bright colors, Mexican ponchos, seersucker suits or Southern belle dresses — a fashion moment (or nightmare) waiting to happen. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door, pending availability. Purchase tickets online.
    6690 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs. 404-236-0480, thesavvycellars.com.
  4. Cinco de Derby at Pontoon Brewing
Another Cinco de Mayo and Kentucky Derby mash-up party is on tap at Pontoon Brewing in Sandy Springs. Starting at noon and going through the evening on Saturday, they’re going all out with themed casks, food trucks and sports entertainment on every screen (including the Kentucky Derby at 6:30 p.m. and the Atlanta United game at 8 p.m.). You’ll be able to take prop bets on horses and win prizes, too. Casks will include sips like a mint julep (stout with mint and bourbon), Double Amp margarita (Grand Mariner, Trip Sec, lime zest and mezcal spirals) and Corneys (IPL with agave, prickly pear and lime juice). Tickets are $40 each. Get more information on their Facebook page.

  5. Gwinnett Beer Fest
The fourth annual Gwinnett Beer Fest falls on May 5 this year — and live music, festival games, food trucks, margarita samples and unlimited samples of more than 150 craft beers promise to transform Coolray Field into Gwinnett’s biggest Cinco de Mayo bash. This year, you’ll even get a chance to get onto the field (home to the Gwinnett Stripers Minor League Baseball team and Atlanta United 2). The event will take place 1-5 p.m., with VIP ticket-holders gaining access at noon. Tickets are available for $45 until May 4, and for $50 on the day of the fest. Visit the website for more information and tickets.
