One location of a string of popular Irish pubs closed its doors on Friday.
Meehan’s Public House Buckhead, which opened in 2014 at 322 E Paces Ferry Road NE in the former Aspen Bartini space, addressed the closure on its Facebook page:
The Irish-style pub from 101 Concepts restaurant group also has locations in Sandy Springs, Vinings, Atlantic Station and downtown Atlanta. 101 Concepts also owns Food 101, Smoke Ring, 101 Steak and Cibe e Beve in metro Atlanta.
A representative for 101 Concepts said the decision to close was purely business, with “a constant uphill battle what with the heavy construction in the area and different traffic flows. We felt it best in the present situation to focus on our other four Meehan’s locations. While the decision seems sudden to the public, this has been in the works for about 8 months. In terms of our employees, we are taking care of all of them. We have 8 other restaurant locations in Atlanta and have offered jobs to those who’d like to stay within the 101 Concepts brand. We are proud to have been members of the Buckhead community and wish all the best to the new restaurant that will take over that location. We are confident in the Meehan’s brand and are looking to place another location, but as of where or when we’re not sure.”
Sports bar Irby’s Tavern will open in place of Meehan’s, What Now Atlanta reports.
General manager Mark Nelson, who was previously with Hobnob Neighborhood Tavern, will work with Buttermilk Kitchen owner Suzanne Vizethann on the menu, which he said will feature “elevated bar food.”
