A ‘contemporary American’ restaurant is set to open in Buckhead this March, with a chef with experience in several Atlanta kitchens in the top spot.
Mission + Market will be located at the corner of Georgia 400 and Lenox Road, inside the new Three Alliance Center building.
Chef Ian Winslade is partnering with restaurateur Jonathan Akly to open the restaurant, which will be housed in a 5,000 square-foot space.
Winslade most recently served as executive chef at Murphy’s in Virginia-Highland and also worked at now-shuttered Atlanta restaurants Jean Georges’ Spice Market, Bluepointe and some Here to Serve restaurants. He also served as sous chef at New York’s La Bernardin and Opus in Los Angeles.
“My vision for Mission + Market is to bring something a little different and hopefully unexpected to the growing city of Atlanta while being able to showcase my own style,” Winslade said in a prepared statement.
The eatery will stay “ungrounded in any one particular type of cuisine,” according to a press release, with a menu “with authentic dishes filled with unique and unpredictable flavor combinations and innovative selections, incorporating various global influences.” The bar and cocktail program will serve up classics with a twist, as well as wines. Winslade said his goal is for the restaurant to channel a Northern California vibe.
The space, designed by Tony Akly and the Restaurants Consulting Group, Inc. features a bar area with lounge at the entry, a dining room with a ‘chefs counter’ looking into the kitchen and private areas that can hold up to 60 people, as well as an outdoor wrap-around patio.
“I am thrilled for Ian’s next chapter in his culinary journey,” said Murphy’s owner Tom Murphy. “I will be adding him to the list of great chefs who spent time at Murphy’s, including Alon Balshan, Hector Santiago, Gerry Klaskala, Nick Oltarsh, Michael Tuohy and Shaun Doty.”
Murphy said that an announcement regarding the restaurant’s replacement for Winslade would be forthcoming.
