The Impossible Burger — known as ‘the veggie burger that bleeds — became available in Atlanta for the first time earlier this month, good news for those who love beef but are trying to eat less of it and vegetarians who miss a big, juicy burger.
But does the plant-based vegan patty — made of water, plant proteins, coconut oil and heme, a natural molecule that gives burgers their distinctive taste and is also found in plants — live up to they hype? We tried it to find out.

It’s available at The Counter in Roswell as a sandwich with herbed goat cheese, tomatoes, grilled red onions, mixed greens, spicy tomato jam and dijon balsamic on an English muffin ($15) or as a salad on mixed greens and quinoa with alfalfa sprouts, toasted almonds, grilled red onions, roasted grape tomatoes and a sesame ginger vinaigrette.
It’s also available at Grindhouse Killer Burger locations (except Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport) as a build-your-own burger ($7.50 for a single, $9.50 for a double) with your choice of sauce and additional premium add-ons, with a vegan bun option.
