Beer Pick: Allagash Hoppy Table Beer

Founded by Rob Tod in 1995 in Portland, Maine, Allagash Brewing Co. is a craft pioneer in Belgian-style ale, and grown to become a true American success story .

Tod, who currently serves as the chair of the board of directors of the Brewers Asoociation, will be at Brick Store Pub from 6-8 a.m. this evening for a Q&A and meet up featuring at least seven Allagash beers on draft.

Among the rare and popular selections, you’ll find Avance, Hive 56 and Ganache American wild beers, St. Klippenstein imperial stout, and Curieux bourbon barrel-aged Belgian triple.

But, though it’s not exactly a buzz beer, I’m happy to see that Hoppy Table Beer, a sublime year-round offering is on that list, too.

And in honor of that, Hoppy Table Beer is today’s Beer Pick.

Hoppy Table Beer
Allagash Brewing Co., Portland, Maine
Available year-round on draft and in 12 bottles.

Profile

This fine example of Belgian-style table beer, a style known for being relatively low in alcohol and food-friendly, is a little more hop-forward than most.

Brewed with Maris Otter malt and a touch of oats, it’s spiced with a bit of coriander, and fermented with a house Belgian yeast. Chinook, Cascade, Comet and Azacca hops present aromas and flavors of citrus and pine with a clean finish.

Pair with

Like all good table beers, HTB is quite sessionable, and makes a fine mealtime sipper with almost any kind of food. At the Brick Store, try it with a cheese or charcuterie palre, fish and chips, or smoked duck with Brussels sprouts, sour cherries, and fennel broth.
