Marietta Square Market announces first batch of restaurants

Pita, pizza, poke, barbecue and tacos are first on the menu of the food hall proposed for downtown Marietta.

Today, Marietta Square Market developers Capital Properties Group and Concordia Properties released the names of the first restaurant tenants for the food hall that was announced in March.

The developers hope to create an 18,500-square-foot mixed-use complex with space for 19 restaurants and shops styled after Krog Street and Ponce City markets.

“We are extremely pleased with the quality and variety of restaurants that have already signed up to be part of the Marietta Square Market,” said Ed Lee of Capital Properties. “Atlanta is fortunate to be home to a large number of outstanding chefs and restaurateurs, who are looking for unique projects where they can open exciting new dining concepts.”

Lee said they will being the permitting process with the city of Marietta in about 60 days.

The food hall will be situated inside the historic Marietta Station buildings at 68 N. Marietta Parkway NW, which would make it about a seven-minute walk from its namesake Square.

Lee said it will be themed as a train station, drawing from the county’s long locomotive history. One of the vendors would be inside a restored 1922 curved side streetcar made to look like the ones that ran from Marietta to Atlanta in the 1930s and 40s.

The new market also has a plan to create 363 parking spots.

The following is the list of the initial five restaurant tenants committed to opening in Marietta Square Market:

Forno 

Forno will offer wood-fired Neapolitan pies and 30 beers on tap. Located in the central hub of the building, it is a concept by Scott Kinsey and Alexis Aleshire-Kinsey, owners of Taqueria Tsunami, Stockyard Burgers and Bones and Pressed Panini Bar.

Street Taco 

Here they’ll serve Mexican street food including tacos and grilled corn. The eatery also promises fresh fruit juices and Mexican cocktails.

Street Taco is a venture by Southern Proper Hospitality, the same dining group behind Tin Lizzy’s Cantina, Gypsy Kitchen, The Southern Gentleman, Beni’s Cubano, The Big Ketch Saltwater Grill and The Blind Pig Parlour Bar.

Grand Champion BBQ

Marietta Square Market would house the fifth Grand Champion BBQ location. There’s already one inside Krog Street Market.

TopPoke Korean and Poke

This is the second location of the joint, which serves poke and Korean fare. Poke is a Hawaiian bowl of raw fish and has become beloved in landlocked Atlanta and beyond.

TopPoke is from James Baek and Christian Lee, the same people behind BullGogi Restaurant, Sumo Hibachi and Wings 101.

Pita Mediterranean Street Food

Set to be the newest of its several locations already around metro Atlanta, the Marietta Square Market outpost promises fresh hummus and pita and shawarma daily. Check out the standard menu here.

Tiny Bubble Tea Bar

After only a couple years on the Square, Tiny Bubble will now have another location. The shop sells not only bubble teas but also loose-leaf tea, matcha and Vietnamese coffee.
