Bob Townsend’s Beer Pick: Red Brick Vanilla Gorilla Imperial Porter

Georgia’s oldest craft brewery, Red Brick Brewing Co. will mark its 24th anniversary on Saturday with a big party at its Westside brewery and newly remodeled tasting room.

Look for the 2017 release of Vanilla Gorilla Imperial Porter on draft, and for the first time it will be available in 16-ounce cans. Plus, there will be several variations of the popular fall seasonal on offer, along with more one-off special releases, and the full lineup of Red Brick beers, including the new Penguin Pale Ale.

Tickets are $25, $50 and $75 in advance, and include goodies at each price point.

And in honor of Red Brick’s anniversary, Vanilla Gorilla is this week’s Beer Pick.

Profile

After its flagship Hotlanta IPA, Vanilla Gorilla may be the beer Red Brick is best known for. And this year, the fall seasonal imperial porter has been released in 16-ounce cans for the first time, which should make it more widely available.

At 8-percent alcohol, it’s big, dark beer brewed with a variety of six different malts, and Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans. All that adds up to a rich flavor and creamy mouthfeel, with notes of vanilla, chocolate and roasted grains.

Pair with

Red Brick recommends pairing Vanilla Gorilla with pork barbecue, vanilla ice cream or cherry pie. But you might do well to stash some as an after dinner treat for a cold fall or winter evening.
