After a successful inaugural appearance in Houston last spring, Black Restaurant Week is expanding to Atlanta.

The event was created to help showcase the black culinary industry in America and bring attention to the importance of diversity in the food industry.

From July 31 to August 13, Atlantans will be able to eat their way through various food events that will feature black Atlanta chefs and/or black-owned restaurants. Diners will be able to chose from casual dining options that will cost between $15 and $25 per person, or fine dining options that will range from $35 to $45 per person.

Participating restaurants include:

In addition, various events planned for Black Restaurant Week will offer the chance to try some of the best bites from Atlanta chefs and caterers, eat their way through a food truck and music festival and watch bartenders compete to make cocktails using ingredients from local black-owned farms. The full lineup of events is available at www.atlbrw.com.

Black Restaurant Week is also expanding to Oakland and San Francisco California this year to explore the diverse food scene on the west coast.

More information about Black Restaurant Week can be found on the event website.

What the chit (lin).  Why can't we get beyond this racist  stuff and call food food?  This just helps perpetuate bigotry and divisiveness to have 'black' any event.  Shall we have a 'white' restaurant week?  Stop it!

This is about as stupid an idea as the made up Kwanza thing.

So what makes it "Black" restaurant week?  Does the owner have to be black? What about the cook?  Does the manager have to be Black?  If one of the above is not Black is the restaurant disqualified?

Black restaurant week????

Isn't that "Racist"?

Dr. King said "judge by content of character, not color of skin".

So why segregate yourself by your skin color?

Wake up people!

Stop Racism.

@JohnQ2 Remember....its only "racism" is its whites vs blacks...not the other way around. Where were you during the Obozo years?
