Last week, it was announced that Savi Provisions owner Paul Nair had snatched up the former Madre + Mason spot at 560 Dutch Valley Road in Morningside. He plans to turn it into Jai Ho Indian Kitchen & Bar.
Nair shared more details about the restaurant as well as his plans to expand Savi Provisions, his neighborhood-focused market that specializes in organic food, wine and spirits.
Jai Ho, which means “Be Victorious” (and is also the title of a song composed for the 2008 movie “Slumdog Millionaire”) will offer both traditional South Indian dishes as well as Indian cuisine “with a little French flair,” according to Nair.
Although the space will get a fresh look, no structural changes will be made to the interior. Nair anticipates opening the 100-seat restaurant by the end of February.
In addition, Nair is moving forward with expansion plans for Savi Provisions. He is adding a Savi location in the Buckhead shopping center on Pharr Road between Fulton Drive and Grandview Avenue. The building is currently under construction and Nair expects to open doors in August.
Unique among Savi locations, this one will be comprised of two levels. The ground level will include a grocery store as well as a 40-seat coffee shop with a drive-thru. The second story will feature a 150-seat gastro pub, offering health-minded dishes.
Nair launched Savi in 2009 with a location in Inman Park. Savi has since added stores in Brookhaven, Buckhead and Midtown. Nair is also eying the possibility of a Savi location in west Midtown. Savi also operates a commissary kitchen and cafe in Sandy Springs.
