Latin American-Southern fusion restaurant Madre + Mason is permanently closed.
Co-owners Doria Roberts and Calavino Donati are selling the Morningside restaurant, which they opened in the fall of 2015. They hope to use the proceeds to purchase the building that houses another of their concepts, cafe and general store Urban Cannibals in Midtown, according to Donati.
Urban Cannibals has been closed since November. The closure was supposed to be temporary while the building was renovated to ready it for sale. “It was impossible for us to be open during the renovation,” Donati said. Now, Calavino and Roberts hope that in purchasing the building they can reopen doors.
Their third concept, Tipple & Rose Tea Parlor and Apothecary in Virginia-Highland, is operating as usual.
There will be a farewell party at Madre + Mason on Friday, Jan. 27. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Calavino will be preparing dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. There will also be live music. Attendees are invited to pay what they wish, with proceeds directed toward the reopening of Urban Cannibals.
